Adventure Trip – Cape Cod
Cape Cod is like an elbow with Provincetown at the farthest tip. Inside the elbow is Cape Cod Bay, and outside the elbow is the Atlantic Ocean. Locals refer to these areas as “Bay Beaches” and “Ocean Beaches.” The part closest to the bridge leading onto Cape Cod is called the inner cape, followed by the middle cape, lower cape, and finally the outer cape.
The towns in the outer cape are Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown. Provincetown, also known as Ptown, is a unique and lively town. From the bridge leading onto Cape Cod to the top of Provincetown is about a 2.5-hour drive. The main road through the Cape is Route 6. The farther out you go, the quieter it gets (except for Ptown proper). The beaches are lovely and much quieter. Where you stay depends on what you want and how long you plan to stay.
There are motels all along Route 6. In the town of Brewster, there is a popular and large resort called Ocean Edge, located on the bayside. Chatham is a very lovely town. A more expensive but gorgeous place to stay is the Chatham Bars Inn. The most beautiful part of the Cape is the Outer Cape (Wellfleet and Truro), but accommodation options are limited, mostly motels along Route 6. It’s a fun area to explore. If you have more time, renting a cottage would be a great option. A recommended site is "I Need a Vacation." For golfers, there are two very unique courses—Highland Links in Truro and Chequesset in Wellfleet. Provincetown is a busy and fun place worth visiting.
